Secret Lagoon Opening Hours
Secret Lagoon opening hours: daily 10:00-19:00 from October to May, 10:00-20:00 from June to September, 18:00 on 24 and 31 December. Northern lights and closures.
The Secret Lagoon opens every day: 10:00 to 19:00 in the winter season, October to May, and 10:00 to 20:00 in the summer season, June to September. On 24 and 31 December it closes at 18:00 (secretlagoon.is, November 2026). No closure was in force in November 2026. It shuts before the late-night hours of the northern lights, so for the lights you need an evening tour; BusTravel Iceland’s Reykjavík: Golden Circle, Secret Lagoon & Aurora Chase pairs the lagoon by day with one, from $212 a person (checked November 2026).
The calendar above is the day with the aurora tour, with 7 reviews (checked November 2026): a listing with few reviews so far.
The hours
| Season | Dates | Open |
|---|---|---|
| Winter | October to May | Daily, 10:00 to 19:00 |
| Summer | June to September | Daily, 10:00 to 20:00 |
| Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve | 24 and 31 December | 10:00 to 18:00 |
The lagoon gives no last-entry time. Its own figure for the average stay is an hour and a half to two hours, and guests on its own tickets have no set time limit before closing, so arriving by 17:00 in winter leaves a full visit. A ticket is for the date and time chosen when booking; the lagoon tries to fit in people who arrive outside their slot but does not promise to. The pool is on private land, and entering outside opening hours is forbidden; the lagoon reports anyone who does to the police.
Winter: short days and steam

The lagoon keeps its water at 38 to 40 °C all year, so winter is a good time for it: the steam rises thick over the pool when the air is cold. Daylight is the limit. On 1 November 2026 the Icelandic Met Office’s sun table for Reykjavik had sunrise at 09:10 and sunset at 17:10, and the days shorten until late December. A winter Golden Circle day reaches the lagoon in the afternoon light or after dark; inside the pool it makes no difference.
Can you see the northern lights from the lagoon?
The lagoon’s own answer is no. It closes at 19:00 in winter, while the chances of the lights are higher later at night, and it will not let anyone in after hours. If the lights are part of the plan, pair the lagoon with an evening tour. BusTravel Iceland’s day does exactly that: the Golden Circle with Kerið and about two hours in the Secret Lagoon, a dinner break in Reykjavik, then an evening tour that drives out to look for clear skies. The lights cannot be promised; if they do not show, the evening tour can be taken again on another night.

Closures

The lagoon closed for renovation for about a week in May 2026 and reopened the same month, a little earlier than first announced. Nothing else in the twelve months to November 2026: no closure notice on the lagoon’s site and none in Icelandic news. Its terms reserve the right to close or cancel bookings for equipment faults, natural hazards or bad weather, with a refund or a new date for prepaid bookings. In winter, road conditions are the more likely problem; Iceland’s road administration publishes them on umferdin.is and on its 1777 line.
