How a Visit to the Secret Lagoon Works
Where the lagoon is, what a ticket costs and where to buy it, how long people stay, the tours that include entry, and when it is open.
The Secret Lagoon (Gamla Laugin, Hvammsvegur, 845 Flúðir) sells its own tickets: 4,500 ISK for adults, 260 ISK for children 14 and under, 3,300 ISK for seniors 67 and over and people with disabilities (secretlagoon.is, November 2026). You can pay online when you book a time, or at reception when you arrive; the lagoon asks guests to book ahead and says it cannot guarantee a place without a booking. Without a car, the simple ticket is a seat on a Golden Circle day with entry included: BusTravel Iceland’s From Reykjavik: Golden Circle, Kerid, & Secret Lagoon Tour, from $129 a person (checked November 2026).
Three ways in
| Price | What you get | Suits | |
|---|---|---|---|
| The lagoon’s own ticket, online or at reception | 4,500 ISK adults, 260 ISK children 14 and under, 3,300 ISK seniors 67+ | Entry for one visit, showers and lockers | Drivers |
| Iceland Secret Lagoon Admission Ticket (GetYourGuide, sold by Gamla Laugin ehf) | from $32 a person | The same entry for a chosen date, free cancellation up to 24 hours before | Drivers who want to pay in dollars ahead |
| From Reykjavik: Golden Circle, Kerid, & Secret Lagoon Tour (BusTravel Iceland) | from $129 a person | Bus, guide, 1.5 hours in the lagoon with entry, Kerið, Geysir, Gullfoss, Þingvellir | No car |
Towels and swimsuits are not in any of these: the lagoon rents each for 1,200 ISK.
At the door or online?
If you drive, the lagoon’s own ticket is the straightforward buy. Book a time on secretlagoon.is and pay online, or book and pay at reception, or simply turn up. The lagoon accepts cash (krónur, US dollars or euros) and most cards. Its terms give online bookings priority when there is a queue, and say a booking does not rule out a wait. In a quiet hour, paying at the door works; at busy times the lagoon cannot promise you a place without a booking, so book the day before if your plans are fixed. A booking made on the lagoon’s site can be cancelled by email up to 24 hours before the visit.
The same entry is also sold on GetYourGuide by Gamla Laugin ehf, the company that runs the pool, from $32 a person (checked November 2026). The lagoon’s own adult price of 4,500 ISK was about US$37 at the European Central Bank’s reference rates of 2 November 2026, so compare the adult price on the calendar with the lagoon’s own before you pick one. It is the same pool either way.

Where the lagoon is

The Secret Lagoon’s Google Maps place is at Hvammsvegur, 845 Flúðir, at 64.1374 N, 20.3097 W, on the edge of the village of Flúðir in the farming country of Hrunamannahreppur. From Reykjavik City Hall it is 105.0 km by road, about an hour and 40 minutes at the wheel; from the Geysir area, 25.1 km; from Kerið, 39.2 km. That puts it inside the Golden Circle loop, which is why so many day tours add it as the soak at the end of the sightseeing. In the village, the Flúðir bus stop is 1.1 km on foot from the lagoon. Reykjavik to the Secret Lagoon covers the drive and the public bus.
The pool

The lagoon’s operator calls it the oldest swimming pool in Iceland: a pool made in 1891 at Hverahólmi, a geothermal area near Flúðir, where Iceland’s first swimming lessons were held from 1909 until 1947. It fell out of use after that and reopened with a new changing house on 7 June 2014. The water comes from the hot springs around it, among them Vaðmálahver, Básahver and Litli Geysir, a small geyser that spouts every few minutes; the lagoon gives it as flowing through continuously, replaced within 24 hours, and at 38 to 40 °C all year. No chemicals are added, which is why everyone showers without a swimsuit before going in.
A path runs round the pool past the springs, which are close to boiling and fenced off: they are not for bathing. Besides the main pool there is a hot paddling pool and a cold plunge pool, indoor changing rooms with lockers, and a café with drinks, snacks and sandwiches but no hot meals. Most people stay an hour and a half to two hours, the lagoon’s own average; guests on its own tickets have no time limit before closing. What to bring has the house rules and the rentals.
When it is open
In the winter season, October to May, the lagoon opens daily from 10:00 to 19:00, and in the summer season, June to September, from 10:00 to 20:00; on 24 and 31 December it closes at 18:00. It closed for renovation for about a week in May 2026 and reopened the same month; no closure was in force in November 2026. Closing at 19:00 in winter, it shuts before the late-night hours when the northern lights are most often seen, and the lagoon’s own answer is that you will not watch them from the water. Opening hours has the detail, and Secret Lagoon vs Blue Lagoon vs Sky Lagoon weighs it against the two lagoons near Reykjavik. Is the Secret Lagoon worth it? answers the question plainly.
The same Golden Circle day stops at Kerið, the red crater lake on Road 35; keridcrater.com covers the crater’s own fee and the walk round its rim.

10:00 to 19:00 daily from October to May, 10:00 to 20:00 from June to September. On 24 and 31 December it closes at 18:00. Entering the pool outside opening hours is forbidden on this private land. See opening hours.

They suit different trips. The Blue Lagoon is a spa with towels, a mud mask and a drink in its Comfort entry from ISK 11,990, 49.7 km by road from Reykjavik. The Secret Lagoon is a plain old pool among hot springs at 4,500 ISK, 105.0 km away and on the Golden Circle. See Secret Lagoon vs Blue Lagoon vs Sky Lagoon.
Yes, as the end of a Golden Circle day; less so as a trip on its own from Reykjavik. It costs less than the big spas, is warm and natural, and the springs steam around it, but it is simple and 105 km from the city. See is the Secret Lagoon worth it.
